Allianz PNB Life has found another sustainability partner as the German Embassy Manila joined its Ride Safe campaign, which seeks to promote biker safety and green mobility.
“Ride Safe is a campaign in support of cycling for sustainable cities. As a global sustainability leader, Allianz launched this campaign to encourage more Filipinos to rekindle an interest in cycling, which promotes low-carbon emission,” explained Allianz PNB Life President and CEO Alexander Grenz.
Through this initiative, Allianz is providing the City of San Juan new protected on-road cycling facilities, such as bollards and safety signs, as well the country’s first solar-powered bike pit stop.
“In order to promote cycling, we need partners who, like Allianz, are committed to addressing climate change. We are elated to have the German Embassy as our partner in spreading awareness of the profound effects of green transport mobility to environment preservation,” Grenz said.
During a recent courtesy call with San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora, Grenz unveiled the design of the solar-powered pit stop that the company will donate to the city. Laura Oexle, the German Embassy’s Deputy Chief of Mission, and Gino Riola, Senior Vice President, Head, Market Management Centre of Excellence - Allianz Asia Pacific, stood as witnesses as Allianz presented the plan and signed the project agreement with Zamora.
“Increasing the number of people who cycle is an important step towards more sustainable and livable cities. Supporting green means of transportation is very well aligned with the German Federal Governments’ commitment to support the Philippines in our global combat against climate change,” explained Laura Oexle.
The German Embassy in Manila is one of the leading partners of the Philippines in the field of climate change and biological diversity.
Allianz, on the other hand, has topped the Dow Jones Sustainability Index since 2017, making it the world’s most sustainable insurer, having consistently advocated several environmental initiatives.
In the Philippines, Allianz has joined the Lucio Tan Group of Companies’ Green Canopy Project for the reforestation of 12 million trees in Cagayan Region. In Negros Occidental, the company has supported the conservation and development of a mangroves plantation by providing hundreds of seedlings. The company has likewise sponsored the operation of E-jeepneys in 2019 that plied the Makati-Mandaluyong route.
